The pure colours and inner light of a subject rendered in watercolour never fails to captivate me. Watercolour paintings have intrigued me for a long while. I did my first ‘water-activated’ set of ‘grown-up’ pictures at the age of 12 and ever since then, I’ve been hooked. Art took second place as I raised my family but then as they grew I picked up my brushes again.
God’s beautiful creation is a constant source of inspiration. Looking at every day things I try to capture their unique beauty and colour whether it’s a flower, figures, still life and yes, even a fried egg still in the pan! It sparkled and had to be painted! Many of my pieces are tributes; my late sister-in-law’s favourite flower or a friend’s pet. Maybe it’s just my favourite breakfast.
Working in watercolour is a joyful challenge, whether I’m trying to capture the sun on a petal, the sparkle on water or a pattern of shadows. Just putting pigment and water on paper and watching the magic makes me wonderfully happy. My hope is that you will see that wonder and joy in my paintings.
